42 Different Shades of Green... Ireland!

This weekend we headed across the sea to the land of many greens. Yes, to Ireland :) Our journey started quite early Friday morning catching the 7:50 flight out of Heathrow on Aer Lingus to Dublin.

Once we made it to our hostel I caught up with Eric and some of his friends who had also made the trip over. We ate at this amazing qdoba/chipotle-esque burritor place for lunch. And I gotta say for someone who has been craving take out mexican food like crazy, this food was tasted incredible! Sorry there's my food rave haha After a lovely lunch we all went on a 3-hour walking tour of the city. Unfortunately it was pretty yucky weather, threatening to rain all day long. But the tour was great, our tour guide Louise (a Trinity College alumn!) took us to all the big sights. She knew tons of history about each place it was really awesome to hear so many stories about the background of each place. We saw the castle, Trinity College, St. Stephen's Park, some of the big churches, the Liffey River, Temple Bar, etc. When the tour ended we decided to rush over to the Guinness brewery to make the last tour! It was kind of a rush through the museum but I got the gist of it haha Then we headed up to the famous skybar and took in beautiful night views of Dublin and I tried the Guinness. It's not something I probably ever need to have again, but hey I can say I've tried a real one from the factory now! After the tour we headed back to the hostel, and here's the perfect example of how small this world is... So we walk back into the hostel and I hear "Savannah?" and it's a friend of mine from the U on a break from her study abroad as well who is studying in Italy. It was so nice to see Yuliya, we got to chat for awhile, it was great to see another familiar face :) Finally we headed out for dinner at a Pub just down the street, food was delicious! After dinner I headed back and went to bed because the next morning would start very early!

Saturday morning I got up at 6:45 to get ready for our day trip out to Galway and the Cliffs of Moher. We took a 2 and a half hour bus ride over to the west coast of Ireland. Galway is one of the cutest towns I've ever seen. It's full of character and very green! We were lucky enough to get on a smaller tour bus which made it really fun and we got to see a lot during the day. Our tour guide was quite the character himself as well ha he wasn't the most fluent tour guide we've ever had but he did sing in Irish! haha that was an experience! So after a little bus tour of Galway we headed out into the country side. It was honestly like scenes out of PS I love you, the country side is GORGEOUS! We drove along the coast line stopping at a light house and pretty country views over the hills. Just driving and looking around was really wonderful. Finally after many stops we arrived at the Cliffs of Moher. If anyone doesn't know about them, you should definitely google it. They are the most naturally beautiful scenes of Ireland you can imagine. My pictures definitely don't even do it justice! We spent about an hour and a half just hiking up to see the stunning views. It was something I will never forget seeing. Finally we headed back down towards Galway making yet more "photo stops" along the beautiful countryside! It was a very great day of sightseeing with the guys! We finally made it back to Galway and then headed back towards Dublin.

The trip was another jam packed sightseeing weekend! It great to be surrounded by such beautiful scenery! We had a wonderful time :) I'd definitely recommend the countrysides of Ireland. I would definitely love to go back and just hop around B&Bs near the coast line. That would be wonderful, everyone there was so nice! They love their tourists the Irish! Hopefully I brought back some luck too for my "mid-terms" this week!

Oh I also went to the Tower of London this week since we got free tickets through our school program. I won't upload them now because I plan on taking the family there. It's a neat spot, and the crown jewels... took my breath away, not even kidding! Also this week I discovered a new dance studio, and I am in LOVE with it. I have missed dance classes so much! This studio is up in Covent Garden, a perfect location right next to the tube station. The studio is a bit expensive (i mean what isn't though in London haha) but honestly its worth it! I took a hip-hop class with a guy named Xavi the first night, he was incredible! So great to get back into the style I love :) I wished so much that all my dance girls could have been there to bust a move with me, but don't worry hsteps I repped us well haha I loved it so much the first night I went right back the next to a Fusion Funk class with this girl teacher who looked just like a version of lady gaga with short hair! She made up a cool jazzy/robotic/hiphop number to Britney's newest hit. It was sweet, a much easier routine than the night before so that was fun just to jam out and not think just dance! Needless to say, I'm going tomorrow night :) Hip hop baby!

So yes needless to say things are falling more into place. Another busy week ahead of me! Full day of work tomorrow including lunch with my bosses for my birthday!! Tuesday is full of class and work and another plan for theatre class. Wednesday is THE day... BIRTHDAY woo woo! I have no idea what I am going to do for it, I've got a big break during the day, so if anyone has any ideas for me, lemme know! Hopefully it's nice out so I can go walk around Hyde Park or something. Then I think I'm going to do a show that night, since getting my first legal drink here happened like a month and a half ago, I figure I'd do something I can't do at home! Hopefully it'll be a great day, I'm bummed I can't spend it with my U of M crew but it's cool to say my 21st happened in London. Thursday will be work again and school and packing for Spring Break! I can't even believe it! Friday Alex and I are heading off to Salzburg, Austria for the first stop of our spring break :) Should be another crazy week!!!

Hope everyone at home is being safe in the blizzard and nasty weather! Stay inside!!! I miss everyone very much!

In the land of beer, pretzels, schnitzel, and hallo.... Germany!

I honestly couldn't wait to get to Germany. I have heard nothing but fantastic things about Munich and was very anxious to see a familiar face too!

I started my journey Thursday night flying from Heathrow to Munich International. Airports in Europe are crazy intense, winding, and huge! So I finally made it to my terminal to fly out on Luftsana. I was in a plane full of German businessmen who must have been coming back from their week of work, so funny to listen to them speak their accents are so harsh! I made it into Munich a bit late but thankfully was able to find Trevor as soon as I exited the terminal. We made our way down to the train trying to figure out how on earth we were going to get to the hostel! Thankfully the train systems are pretty easy to figure out once you have gotten your ticket and they announce quite a bit in English. We were exhausted from the travel and yes we did get lost a bit trying to find the hostel, which is literally 2 minute walk from the huge main train station... whoops! Once we got there though we hit up the fantastic bar lounge which was booming with all kinds of people.

The next morning we decided we would do a day trip to the Neuschwanstein castle, the one we know the best as the one Walt Disney was inspired by! We took the train to Fussen (2 hours) and then took the bus up to the mountain town. Once we got up there we had to buy our tickets and then you have to hike up the mountain to get to the castle. We decided to be different and to take the horse carriage up! It was so pretty and a lovely experience :) finally we got to the top and walked up to take many, many pictures of the gorgeous castle! Finally we had tour of the inside of the castle. I guess I didn't know that it was never finished and I don't think anyone really ever got to live there, which is so unfortunate because the rooms that are done are so ornate and detailed, it's stunning! And every window has the most breath-taking view (pictures don't even do it justice)! Unfortunately you can't take pictures inside the castle so I only have my lovely memories, but if you google it, I am sure tons of pictures will show up. The throne room was my favorite, it had this huge chandelier that weighed literally a ton! King Ludwig was for sure crazy, he had every room painted with scenes from operas he enjoyed, and his favorite animal was a swan... I don't think I have ever heard of anyone loving swans haha I found that extremely interesting too. All in all the place was incredible, something everyone should see. The Bavarian countryside is so naturally beautiful I really enjoyed it. After we got back from out castle adventure we changed and headed out for dinner. Our hostel map laid out some of the most famous beer halls in the city so we decided to try out some authentic german food. It was a mad house! All the waiters/waitresses wear traditional German outfits and can carry sooooooo many mugs of beer, it is impressive!!!! We had a wonderful time people watching, the atmosphere is so much fun. You just walk in and sit at these huge picnic tables with lots of random people. We sat across from a group of Asian tourists who apparently didn't know how strong beer is in Germany... needless to say they wanted to cheers constantly by the end of dinner haha it was definitely a great night!

Saturday morning we got up early to head to Dachau which is only about a half hour from Munich. I was nervous about how I would react to it, actually seeing a concentration camp for the first time. It was a really chilly gray day to set the mood even more. We got audio guides and started walking around the camp. Most of the camp has been destroyed, only a few buildings are actually authentic, the bunks have been rebuilt as replicas so you can see what they would have originally looked like. The museum part is authentic though, it was wear people were checked into the camp and basically had all their freedoms stripped away. Honestly I can't even explain how eerie and depressing it is. Like you just keep wondering, how did this happen? how could people do this to one another? How could you be that brainwashed? It's honestly mind-blowing. I really didn't take many pictures, I just didn't think it was appropriate. It was just something I knew I needed to see first hand and experience. I learned so much more than I originally knew. I couldn't believe how many people were imprisoned there and how many were killed. The place became an execution spot. I honestly tear up recalling it. The worst part is the crematorium though. I think I was in there for literally a minute before I felt physically ill. I couldn't handle it, the thought of all those innocent people... it's beyond awful. Parts of me wanted to burst out crying at so many points during our visit. All in all it was a really moving experience.

We came back to Munich early afternoon and decided to grab some lunch and explore the city center. The place was crazy packed! The shopping scene there is incredible, just store after store in this huge plaza. We browsed in and out of a few places, mostly to keep warm! Also we stumbled upon the big cathedral and decided to go in to check it out. The thing was literally massive! The highest ceilings and the biggest crucifix I have ever seen! Again you will be able to tell I fell in love with yet more stained glass windows haha I am just so intrigued by them! They are so beautifully done and detailed with scenes from stories from the Bible and saints. After exploring we took a bit of break and then got ready and headed out for another authentic German dinner. We even topped that dinner off with some flaming apple fritters mmmm... delicious! Right around the corner from the restaurant too was the most famous beer hall in Munich, Hofbräuhaus! The place is soo big! It has multiple levels and a German band playing. Needless to say this was a perfect last night in Munich! We enjoyed the fun, loud, and crazy atmosphere and even ordered the biggest pretzel I have ever seen. Literally the thing was bigger than my face haha It was very very good :) I say we get them in the states! Eric and some of his friends met up with us there too! It was a great last night!

Needless to say the weekend was an A+ (as my dad likes to put it!)! We had a wonderful time and saw a lot! Germany is a wonderful place and I can't wait to go back! It is full of great people and stunning views both in the city and the countryside. I highly recommend Munich or Munchen as they say, to anyone traveling in Europe!

This week is busy once again! Full of classes, work, actual homework :( haha, and then we are leaving for Dublin on Friday morning! Going to be another wonderful week in Londontown!

Miss all you guys back in the states! Hope everyone is doing well!
xoxoxoxoxo from London and a very Happy Valentine's Day to everyone tomorrow!
